Add a pause before
turning a block off.
An automation can bring you back to Atten when you open Settings during protection. Here is what it does—and what it cannot do.

First, understand the limit.
This is a convenience automation, not an iOS security restriction. It reopens Atten when Settings is opened and the app’s protection check returns true. It does not remove your ability to change Screen Time permissions or edit the automation.
These instructions use the Atten action labels. Remind is its new name in preparation; the app you can install now is Atten. The steps use the action label “Is Atten Protection On?”. If that action is absent in your version, contact support; do not substitute an unrelated action.
Start with a short, nonessential test session. Keep a way to access Settings when you need it. Do not set up an all-day block of Settings or Shortcuts just to follow this guide.
Part one
Create a protection check.
- Make a new shortcut.
Open Apple’s Shortcuts app on your iPhone and create a new shortcut.
- Add the Atten action.
Search the available actions for Atten and choose Is Atten Protection On? If the action offers Show When Run, turn it off.
- Check its result.
Add an If action that checks the protection result. Inside the branch for a true result, add Open App and select Atten. Leave the Otherwise branch empty.
- Give it a useful name.
For example, “Return to Atten.” Run it manually with and without an active block to check that it opens Atten only when expected.
Part two
Run it when Settings opens.
- Create a personal automation.
In Shortcuts, open Automation, add an automation, and choose the App trigger.
- Choose Settings.
Select the Settings app and the option for when it is opened.
- Choose automatic execution.
Select Run Immediately where offered. On versions with an Ask Before Running switch, disable the confirmation. Labels can vary with iOS.
- Run your protection check.
Select the shortcut you created, or add Run Shortcut and choose it. Save the automation.
Personal automations are specific to a device. Repeat and test the setup on each device where you want this behaviour.
Test before relying on it.
During a short Atten session, open Settings and check whether the automation returns you to Atten. Then end the test session and confirm that you can open Settings normally.
Nothing happens when I open Settings.
Run the shortcut manually first. Confirm that the protection check returns true during the session, that Settings is selected as the trigger, and that the automation can run without asking. If the action itself is missing or produces an unexpected result, contact support with your versions and steps.
I want to stop the automation.
Open Shortcuts, find the automation in the Automation tab, and disable or delete it. Test access to Settings again. This automation is intended to add a moment of friction, not to prevent access to your own device settings.
